▪ Should I start on Minoxidil 10% instead of 5%?

We recommend starting on 5% first to see how Minoxidil affects you. 

▪ Is this suitable for both men and women?

It can be used in men and women. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Higher strengths of Minoxidil has been associated with an increase in body hair and may not be a popular choice for females.

▪ Is Minoxidil 10% better than 5%? What is the evidence?

There is very little research comparing Minoxidil 10% vs Minoxidil 5%. A study published in 2021 by Ghomey et al (J Dermatological Treatment) showed that 5% provided more benefits when compared with 10%. Keep in mind this study was done using an alcoholic formulation, hence the increase in adverse effects.

The benefit you get with Minoxidil 10 Plus+ is reduced dosing frequency compared with Minoxidil 5 Plus+. Due to its non-alcoholic content, it is suitable for beard growth compared to other alcoholic formulations.

▪ I have a bald patch, will Minoxidil regrow hair in this area?

Research shows it is difficult to achieve hair growth in scalp regions where the stem cell bulb has remained dormant for quite some time. We highly recommend combining Minoxidil with Finasteride or combining Minoxidil with micro-needling in balding areas to see appreciable results.

Minoxidil is effective for people who have hair shedding and want to keep their hair. As long as the stem cell niche is still active, Minoxidil has shown be effective. This applies to all brands of Minoxidil, due to its mechanism of action.
